Optimist Junior Golf 2007

Inglewood, Wednesday June 27, 2007. On a warm sunny day, fifty-five (55) young golfers competed in the Annual Optimist District Junior Qualifying Golf Tournament held Monday June 25, 2007 at Caledon Country Club, hosted by the Optimist Club of Brampton.


Jed Walmsley (17 yrs) of Cheltenham shot a remarkable 72 to claim the winner’s trophy in the 16-18 age group and an all-expense paid trip to the International Optimist Championships in Florida this July. Jed was runner-up last year at this same competition.

Runner-up in the 16-18 age group, with 75, was 17 year old Amrit Etwaroo of Scarborough. Third was 18 year old Brent Deighan of Peterborough with a 77.

The winner in the 14-15 age group was Mitchel Kennedy, 14, of Scarborough with a score of 74. Runner-up was Nick Maracle, 14, of Nobel with a score of 76. Adam Romano, 14, of Brampton shot 77 to finish third in this age group.

In the 12-13 age group, the trophy was claimed by 12 year old Wade Chen of Scarborough. Runner-up, with a score of 78, was 13 year old Michael Nedoszytko of Toronto.

In the 10-11 age group the winner was 11 year old Hanish Nagrani of Welland with a score of 84.

In the girls competition, 15 year old Bhanisha Nagindas of Brampton shot 84 to win the 14-15 age group, and was also named top female golfer at the qualifier. Alyssa Kwon, 17, of Toronto was second with a score of 85. Alyssa was declared the 16-18 Winner.


The following seven golfers qualified to advance to the Optimist International Championships held at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida next month:

All the above golfers also qualified to play in the Optimist Canadian National Championships to be held in Ingersoll August 13-15, 2007.
