Brampton, Monday June 2, 2008. On a cool windy day, twenty-eight (28) young golfers competed in the 20th Annual Optimist Club of Brampton Junior Qualifying Golf Tournament, held Sunday June 1, 2008 at Castlemore Golf & Country Club.

The longest drive, hole #14, was won by 18 year old Sean Allen of Brampton. On closest to the pin, hole #5, Zubair Qureshi (18) of Brampton was the winner. The most honest golfer in the tourney was 10 year old Hannah Eastman of Brampton.

Jed Walmsley (18 yrs) of Cheltenham shot a 73 to claim the winner’s trophy in the 16-18 age group. Runner-up with 76 was 16 year old Garrett Brazzier of Brampton. Max Bianchi, 18, of Woodbridge finished third, with a score of 79.

The winner for the second year in a row in the 14-15 year age group was 15 year old Adam Romano of Brampton with a score of 74. Runner-up was 15 year old Javier Diaz of Woodbridge, with a score of 76. Third was David Belcastro of Brampton with a score of 79.

In the 12-13 age group, the first place was claimed by 13 year old John Nalbandian of Brampton who shot 78. John had no other competitors in his age group.

A total of six girls competed at the tournament this year, and only one qualified to advance due to their scores. Bhanisha Nagindas, 16, of Brampton shot an amazing 74 to easily win the girls title.

The following eight golfers qualified to advance to the Optimist Central Ontario District Tourney on Monday, June 23, 2008 at Caledon Country Club:

The top scorer in the 16-18 age group at Caledon will be sent to the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships, all expenses paid, which will be held in late July at PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
